Good news for the Massachusetts readers out there — After nearly two years of back-and-forth deliberations, a new amendment was just filed to keep the hopes alive for legal sports betting.

The proposal:

  • Allow people 21 or older to bet on pro and college sports
  • Impose a 10% tax on revenue operators make from in-person wagers and 12% from online wagers and fantasy sports

What this could mean? With one of the most hardcore fan bases in the country, Massachusetts would instantly become a major market for sports betting. Home to the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins — bets would be flowing all year.

The Timeline: The hope is to have sports betting up and running by the beginning of the NFL season in the fall.
